About Gemstones
Gemstones are pieces of mineral crystal that form, under various conditions, mostly deep in the Earth’s crust. They are selected for their beauty, durability, and rarity and then cut or faceted and polished to make jewelry. There are actually about 300 Gemstones. Their color is the result of how light is absorbed by the stone and interacts with their trace elements, or impurities.
In addition to their beauty, Gemstones have been coveted throughout civilization for their perceived magical powers. Gemstones were, and are, thought to have healing, protective and attractive energy. They have been used as amulets and in rituals as far back as time and are still worn in jewelry by those who believe in their energy force.
